IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample With Answer

Here is an IELTS writing task 2 sample with a brand score of 8:

Task:

Some people believe that to tackle climate change, individuals should take more responsibility for their own carbon footprint. Others argue that it is the responsibility of governments and large companies to solve the problem. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Essay:

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and there has been a lot of debate over who should be responsible for solving it. On the one hand, there are those who believe that individuals have a crucial role to play in reducing their own carbon footprint. On the other hand, others believe that governments and big companies hold the key to tackling climate change. In my view, both groups have important responsibilities and must work together to address this global challenge.

One argument in favor of individual responsibility is that people have a direct impact on the environment through their daily activities and choices. For example, choosing to drive a car rather than taking public transportation, or eating a meat-based diet instead of a plant-based one, can significantly increase an individual’s carbon footprint. By taking steps to reduce their own impact, individuals can play a key role in slowing the progression of climate change. Additionally, if enough people make small changes to their lifestyle, the collective impact could be significant.

However, while individual action is important, it is also true that governments and large companies have the resources and influence to make a much greater impact on reducing carbon emissions. Governments, for instance, can implement policies that encourage sustainable practices, such as taxes on carbon emissions or investment in renewable energy. Additionally, large corporations have the power to significantly reduce their carbon footprint through changes to their supply chain and operations, as well as by lobbying for more sustainable policies.

In my opinion, both individuals and governments have important roles to play in solving the climate crisis. While individuals can take steps to reduce their own impact, governments and corporations have the resources and power to make a much larger impact. In order for real progress to be made, both groups must work together. Governments can lead by example, implementing policies and investing in technology that helps to reduce carbon emissions. Meanwhile, individuals can make changes to their lifestyle and make a conscious effort to reduce their own carbon footprint.

In conclusion, the solution to climate change requires the collective effort of governments, large companies, and individuals. While each group has its own unique role to play, they must work together if we are to achieve a more sustainable future.
